There was a wild silence in the room as Kuni thought of the appropriate answer to Aaliyah’s question. It was no surprise the question came up but she too had her reservation in the beginning. Aaliyah questioning whether she was sure about what she was doing made it all the more complicated.

“I am just being concerned Kuni that is all, I feel like this guy is being too fast. Any sane man would want to take his time, why is he rushing to do everything so soon and so fast? I am concerned because it does not make logical sense. Have you not just known this guy for two weeks or something?”

“Ten days actually” Kuni replied

“See my point? Who gets this excited in just ten days?”

Kuni sighed heavily before agreeing with Aaliyah, it was indeed true that ten days alone could not make her so sure.

“So what do you suggest I do?”

“Good question” Aaliyah said as she sat upright on her bed

“Turn down the invite to the party, tell him you can’t go, tell him something came up...”

Kuni shrugged her shoulders as she fought the thought of disappointing him; she was ready to take things slow but not cancelling the invitation to the party. Kuni already felt obliged to go especially because Amanda seemed really nice and she did not want to disappoint her or her brother. However, Aaliyah was her best friend and they often cared about each other’s interest, why would she want to go against her? The mare thought of questioning what Aaliyah thought was right for her made her very uncomfortable, she was guiltier that she did not all the way agree with what Aaliyah wanted.

“Kuni, its best for you” She said stretching her hands to hold her friend who sat right next to her.

“Aaliyah, I agree we need to take it slow but this is his sisters’ birthday party, I can easily pick on another time to take it slow but not when it comes to his own sisters birthday, I am not really a person who goes against my words and you know that. I definitely will take things slow but his sisters’ birthday is important and I wouldn’t want to disappoint them both”

The words injured a part of Aaliyah as she knew this party would be another opportunity for Simon to get close to Kuni, it was hard to trust Simon, he was a ladies’ man and he would not have a hard time to sweep Kuni off her feet. This made Aaliyah sick to her gut. However, she could not act so desperate to make her point across as she would appear jealous.

“You are right, I understand that all too well but just be careful is all I am saying. I know Simons type. They are very sneaky and by the time you realise it, he would have moved on so easily like nothing happened”

Kuni nodded her head as she yawned and stretched herself, it was clear she was ready to retire to bed and that meant the conversation was over much to Aaliyah’s dismay. There was nothing left to discuss apart from wishing each other a peaceful sleep. Aaliyah lay in bed that night staring at the ceiling wondering what she had gotten herself into, she loved her friend and she truly wanted to be there for her as a friend but Simon was her long-time crush and the only man she had gotten so comfortable with in the last years. He was definitely not perfect but she could rely on him whenever she wanted to, she had secretly loved him for so long that it felt like she rightfully deserved to be the woman he ever gets to introduce to his parents. It was clear now that Simon would be lost for good. There was no chance they would make it work after having her friend so close to him even if he wanted to. Kuni was never supposed to be part of the plan; she was just an afterthought when Simon raised his concerns about his sister. She wanted the money so bad that she offered up her friend for the same, now it weighed down to what she wanted the most, the money or Simon. In all of this, Kuni was not her concern. Aaliyah knew someone that could help Kuni with a good job, it was away in Chilanga and there she would have her own place and probably away from Simon. She took in a deep sigh wondering if this was a good idea.

“All I have to do is just call him, I know he will do for me whatsoever I want” She mumbled to herself as she held on to her mobile phone.
