GETTING THEM 16

“No honey no, those girls? No... They looked like prostitutes I don’t want you to have such company. I am your only friend now and whoever decent you will meet once you are in school. I don’t like those for you” he said.

I was wondering how our goodnight was going to be as it was lit the previous night. However, he pecked my forehead instead and then pecked my lips too.

“We have had a very sober conversation let’s sleep over it, I know you are still thinking about it. I will call you before I sleep if that’s okay” he said.

“Okay” I replied before opening the door.

“Wait” he said holding my hand.

I turned to look at him and our eyes met. “Thandiwe, I am serious about what I want with you… please think about it and I will wait for your response… whenever you will be ready” he said.

I nodded my head and quickly exited with my pizza and juice.

As i unlocked my sisters flat, I wondered if I would sleep well alone in the house. A part of me wondered why I did not just permit my sister to let her friend come but it was too late I had already made up my mind and she was now okay with what I chose. Luckily, the neighbours were close and I could be heard if I screamed, it was a not a semi-detached flat which made it difficult to live like that. I warmed the pizza in the oven while I sat on stool thinking about what I just talked about Austin, it was difficult to tell what I felt but I was clearly not letting him go. I would still give it a go and if not for the attraction at least for the fact that this guy would kill my boredom. I hated my life most of the time and I wanted to have it another way. It was not strange that a lady of my age was seeing things around and was being ambitious.

The night did not seem long at all as Austin and I talked until I dosed off. I tried to keep myself busy the following day by doing all the laundry I had piled up and the evening was occupied by Austin as he took me for a movie and then we sat in the car talking for hours before he dropped me home. As time went by I saw Austin prove to be a good guy who held very interesting conversations, we talked so much and he was always so attentive and considerate of what I was saying. Lumbiwe eventually returned home and I now had to adjust to seeing Austin over weekends only as late nights would not work unless he was willing to leave work early which he could not do all the time.

It had been here months in and so far I had nothing to complain about, I got my admission letter at the university and it was Austin who was there to help me push for my bursary. Having been granted 100% bursary I was not going to stress about fees and the like. My now aim was to just worry about other things like meals and boarding fee which my sister was going to help out. Austin came in handy and helped with this, Lumbiwe had eventually met him and approved of my relationship but not without stern warnings on how to conduct myself.
