RENTED LIFE CHAPTER 25

Kuni was torn in between, it was the morning of her relocation. Aaliyah had been very supportive and even kept assuring her of seeing her through her settling. They drove to the school around midday and Kuni saw the human resource manager who gave her offer letter as well and her house keys. Aaliyah helped wheel her cases to her room while Kuni picked up the items that she had received as gifts from her friend Aaliyah. When she finally walked into her house, she could not believe it. It was so beautiful, well built and definitely well decorated, it was clear a lot of thought was put into making the house feel like home by management. Kunis house was well cleaned before her arrival, the kitchen had a built-in stove and all other appliances were well placed such as the microwave, kettle, sandwich make, waffle maker, blender and fridge.

“My God, I feel like I am in a dream that I really need to wake up from” she said

“I told you would love it here” Aliyah said.

Aliyah had even be kind enough to donate the bed Kuni had been using stating that she had been thinking of rearranging her guest room. The movers had moved with them and they were ready to take in the bed as well as the vanity ottoman which Aaliyah also gifted her friend. Kuni was busy setting up the house while Aaliyah decided to cook something for them to eat. She had carried pasta and some relish. It was a beautiful afternoon of genuine laughter and reminiscing over their childhood and everything that had been happening in college.

It had been six weeks since her relocation, Kuni had eventually settled and Simon seemed to be a usual visitor. The school had very friendly staff although most of them were quite older. Kuni had found a liking for one particular woman who was closer to her age. She was a mother of twins and lived in the farms near the school with her Asian husband. She had  a heart of gold and she often brough things to share with Kuni. The lady had gotten so comfortable that nearly all her old clothes she had passed on to Kuni who clearly looked like a simple girl picking herself up. The school had quite a competitive dress code amongst teachers and she was trying to help Kuni to fit in. Her name was Celine, she was very light in complexion and almost looked like she was of colored decent. Celine had met Simon a couple of times, when he came to see Kuni and she had introduced him as her boyfriend. Often times Celine would encourage her about how good a man Simon looked and that she would take her time in knowing him. She truly believed in his intentions for her although Kuni was very reluctant in concluding on Simon. Celine once had a frank conversation with Kuni asking her what birth control methods she had been on as she was looking for recommendations. Kuni was shocked as she leaned back in her chair in the staff room.

“What is it? It’s an honest question. You have been with him for 4 months, right? Have you been exclusive yet or are you still waiting?” she asked

“Well, it’s actually 6 going on 7 months now and no we have not yet been intimate. It’s not something either of us has ever suggested” Kuni said.

Celine clapped her hands in disbelief.

“7 months, no sex? And you have never discussed it? I don’t mean to be rude but I doubt this guy is waiting with you?”

Kuni was confused and she forced Celine to clarify.

“Don’t people abstain? Isn’t that normal and I mean I don’t mind being celibate, I have been for a while now and I honestly respect Simon for not making the advances. I do not think we are ready”

Celine shook her head in disbelief.

“I am not a bearer of bad news and I will never be but girlfriend, 7 months is too long for a man not to even suggest it. At least even discussing it, even if you both don’t want but at least discuss it... know which route you both wish to take and how best to handle it. 7 months? No my love”

Kuni was really bothered by this conversation, although was fine with being celibate, how Celine said it made her believe that something was seriously wrong. As she went to her house that evening, she was determined to raise the subject with Simon. She was looking for a way to corner him without being obvious. That night, Simon called around the usual time just after 7pm, she was very excited to chat with him as usual but soon brought herself to asking.

“Honey… I have something I want to know and I hope you can give me an honest answer”

Simon was agitated, he hoped it was not what he was thinking but he kept calm waiting to hear what she would say. Kuni was never confrontational or one to hold the conversation. It was scary.
