GETTING THEM 1

GETTING THEM 1

GETTING THEM 1

I normally called when I approached Kalanje’s house just so I could get him to pick me form the gate but he often suggested it was okay for me to just enter. As always, he insisted I just walk in with the common statement “the coast is clear” to indicate that his parents were not in sight. Hurriedly I walked to his apartment with my mind fully aware that someone in the main house might spot me, either a maid or somebody and that made me quite uncomfortable. My legs nearly twisted each other as I tried to get there as fast as I could; I guess my knocked knees were more apparent for whoever was watching.

“I should have won a longer dress” I sighed

The house was soon getting of sight and I was now approaching the back of it which even made it worse as that was where the kitchen was, the chances that there was someone there were quite high. If I had not paid so much attention on trying not to be seen, I would have noticed that someone was seated on the swing on the lawn to my right. Someone cleared their throat and my mouth went dry.

“Good afternoon dear”

Looking up and realising it was Mrs Mukupa, Kalanje’s mum.

My knees froze.

“Looking for somebody?” she asked putting the magazine she had earlier been reading aside.

I squirmed making a chattering sound with my teeth. I had never been this nervous.

“Don’t be afraid… is it Kalanje?”

“Good afternoon mum” I bobbed a curtsy

“Good afternoon dear… You are Kalanje’s friend I presume?”

I rigidly afforded a nod and she pointed at his apartment “He must be in”

“Thank you” I replied hold clasping my hands

In no time I was out of her sight and knocking on Kalanje’s door which immediately swung open. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I looked at him furiously. He giggled.

“She is harmless…”

“Well you could have at eats warned me you fool…” I said almost throwing a punch at his right shoulder which he darted “What are you doing anyway? I am hungry” I said

“You always are, there’s left over pizza in the fridge and some wine… you know it would be bad if we took some wine” he said with wink.

“Firstly you sound pathetic when you flirt and secondly I hope it’s not margarita” I said before heading to the fridge “I don’t eat anothing else” he responded.

I sighed heavily as I shut the fridge door and leaned my back against it. “I do not know one person who  ... out of all the flavours of pizza chooses margarita... you are weird”

Kalanje chuckled irritatingly while pointing at the pantry.

“Should be some cookies in there or make noodles  ... I am going to have a shower. Like always…” he posed looking straight  in to my eyes.

With my eyes I suggested that I wanted to hear him finish his statement.

“Make yourself comfortable” he winked.

Kalanje was acting weird, we were always close in school and shared a lot, I was pretty much one of the boys but it was the first time he was behaving so weird in my presence.
