Thoko paced in her office trying to put her argument
together; Enesie had to leave the organization with immediate effect and she
was going to make sure this happens, her argument was that Enesie deliberately
took leave at a time the organization needed her the most. One of the donors
filed in a complaint stating that the financial report had many flaws and came
in much later than expected. Although Enesie’s immediate supervisor explained
that Enesie’s leave was well planned and anything that went wrong after was not
her fault but that of the remaining accountant, Thoko could not understand and
she went on to see the Human resources manager. Mr. Lushomo listened to Thoko
whine as he leaned back in his chair, he was quite confused on exactly what
Thoko wanted as she looked desperate
“For how close you are with Enesie, I am surprised you
are saying all this about her…” Mr. Lushomo replied.
Thoko had a little shame but soon gathered herself.
“Sir, it’s the duty of every member of staff here to
ensure all their work is done properly even in their absence. Enesie knew very
well how important this report was as its part of the close out report of this
project. I don’t understand why you are defending her as HR. Shouldn’t you be
mad that she is lagging on work?”
Mr Lushomo removed his glasses and leaned over forward
resting his arms on the piled up desk.
“Thoko what is it? I can tell when a friendship is
crushing and I know this is something personal. I am here to ensure staff put
up their best performance but I also know they have family and need to rest. I
would also like to remind you that part of my job is to study employee
behavior. Enesie is very dedicated to her work; I can say she’s more dedicated
than her supervisor. We have wanted to promote her for long because she is more
qualified than him; she does most of the work. If things went wrong in accounts
department how is it the fault of an employee who took leave and had already
informed the institution on who would act in her place?. Look here; it is sad
if nobody else in that department is competent then I am afraid we have a
crisis. As for Enesie, by law she is entitled to leave so are you..”
It seemed Thoko did not hear a think he said and she
was just ready to go and fight her case with the board of directors.
“Sir, I came to you as HR to help me. I need leave too
but I prioritize, this is for the good of this organization.. Do you realize
that we stand losing this donor for good if we don’t close out well? We talking
of the welfare of over 40 employees.. we have no projects looking promising and
you are defending a girl who is out on the beach taking half naked pictures and
romancing on a yacht with a ministers son.. do you know what that even says
about our organization? The tabloids have speculated on where she comes from,
soon the organization will be trending for useless things…”
Mr Lushomo raised an eyebrow in utter shock.
“what are you talking about?”
Thoko quickly opened her phone and handed it over to
the HR who quickly put on his glasses and reviewed the pictures. Thoko was a
little upset as it seemed Mr. Lushomo was admiring Enesie.
“Sir” she said waving his face.
Mr. Lushomo took off his glasses and looked at Thoko
while he handed her phone back to her.
“I ask again… what do you have against Enesie? She is
your friend, what has happened?. If anything you two break rules together… what
is it? Are you jealous of her wonderful trip? It looks like she was having
fun.. Enesie reports back in the office tomorrow… why don’t we let her come and
I will talk to her and hear her side of the story…” Mr Lushomo said
unconvincingly.
Thoko left his office upset knowing she would end up
putting herself in trouble if she approached the directors looking at how Mr. Lushomo
was unresponsive, if not for how hardworking she was, he would have preferred
to release her instead as she was known for her attitude when she hates
somebody. Thoko had a lump on her throat as she hurried back to her office and
locked herself up. She leaned against the wall and dragged her weight to the
floor as tears ran down her cheeks.
“A minister’s child??… why did I never know this? And
why does he look good all of a sudden.. God why wouldn’t you just show me he
was a good guy from the beginning” she cried all the while scrolling through
the leaked photos which Elisha had posted on his instagram of Enesies last day
in Milan. The two had gone to the beach and took a private yacht and invited
Thandi and Christian along. It was fun filled but Elisha made one mistake
forgetting his dad was minister and he would easily trend.
Thoko jealousy is a disease, remember you did want someone older than you??
