GETTING THEM 3

GETTING THEM 3

It was clear that without scholarship I would not get in to university that is why I would need to work extra hard. I did my best but I know I could have done better if I did not get so involved with Kalanje. The glitz and glam described the lifestyle that Kalanje had; his parents were not just rich but could also afford to fly their children out on holiday every term. You see, I was not from a well to do family but being found with Kalanje made me escape my life for a moment. He was so good to me and he made sure I was always happy but like they say “Money goes where it belongs”. No matter how involved with Kalanje, do not be fooled that the life he had would automatically be mine. There were instances where I would be reminded of who I was, not that Kalanje would remind me but sometimes I would not just fit in. one such instance was at his sister’s wedding. I remember getting an invite but honestly I really shouldn’t have gone. I should have stayed back home like my sister had advised. In her words she said “No matter how you try, you will never fit in to this boy’s world”

Kalanje finally pulled over at the mall and I sighed with relief. I was getting impatient and I still had no idea why we had to drive all the way to Makeni mall.

“You’re acting weird” he said as he looked at me

“Me? No honey you are acting weird” I responded.

“Anyway, I had a beautiful restaurant in mind…” he said as he unfastened his seat belt.

“oooookaaaaay…” I replied wonderingly.

“Come on let’s go check it out…” he said.

I hopped out of the car and made sure to quickly adjust my clothes in the window reflection before I joined him and we held hands. I felt a sense of security every time Kalanje treated me that way even though we were just 9 months apart in age. He turned 20 but looked way older as he was quite built, Kalanje loved the gym and it paid off. He was not only tall like I liked them he was equally well proportioned. His last birthday was a day after his sister’s wedding and I was invited for the party but I could not attend because of what happened at the wedding. Kalanje had to book me a cab the night of the wedding and hoped I would arrive safely home because I was unfortunately not going to stay in his room that night, I refused to. Every person that was invited to the wedding had a free night’s accommodation at the beautiful Sunbay hotel deep in Chongwe area, well everyone except myself. For one reason or the other, my room got cancelled because I was not family. Well I was not anything. I was not surprised that they managed to fish me out especially because the wedding was for 35 people only. No one else but me, it was so embarrassing. Kalanje had insisted that I spend a night in his room after coming up with a plan of sneaking me in. However, I just couldn’t. I was lucky to have even gotten a card anyway.

Holding to on his hand, I perceived his cologne so strongly, it smelt like everything a man should. Kalanje was stylish in his white polo golf tshirt and deep blue denim trousers which he finished off with white snickers. His hand felt warm and ticklish.
