TOO FAR TO REACH 49

Hannah looked at Jeff tiredly, she was nearly falling asleep but she knew that she needed to get to her room as soon as she could. It was getting risky. Jeff could not utter any more words to Hannah as he stared in her eyes blankly. The lust had disappeared, there was nothing but frustration in his heart. He didn’t like how he felt.

“You don’t have to say anything” Hannah said before getting up.

Jeff faced the ceiling and sighed. He was quiet all along.

“I will see you tomorrow..  resolve things with your wife ”

Hannah hurried out of the room and Jeff lay back in bed, Pumulo had not called to check on her husband. Jeff was worried. One dial and Pumulo picked up.

“Honey.. you have not called.. are you okay?” he asked.

“ I’m good honey… there’s so much noise here..” she shouted.

“Do you need me?” she asked.

“I always need you…” he said calmly.

Pumulo thought twice about waiting for more fire works but she thought of the jet lag as well.

“Maybe let me come honey, tomorrow will be long” she said

Jeff looked around to ensure all was well before he responded affirmatively.

“Yes honey.. come and rest”

Pumulo was so tired, she wanted to be intimate with her husband but she was tired and Jeff did not make a move.

“Thank you for the most amazing vacation honey” Pumulo said as she leaned over to kiss Jeff.

“Anything for my wife… and for our children… I can’t wait …”

“Honey stop making me feel excited for nothing… are you sure I look pregnant?”

Jeff had earlier suggested this but Pumulo completely opposed. Jeff was positive Pumulo was pregnant but she highly doubted it. Being pregnant would be a blessing as Pumulo was getting worried, she wanted a baby and  it was not happening, her only consolation was that they had a lot going on and being pregnant might have been too much work. With everything looking positive, Pumulo believed it was time to be a mother.

“I would be so happy to be pregnant honey. I hope there’s no problem.. why have I delayed?”

Jeff drew her closer.

“Honey we have discussed this before, I don’t think there’s a problem.. we just had a lot going on” he said.

Jeff looked at his wife and swallowed hard, he could not bring himself to forget everything but he was willing to pretend for as long as he could. Hannah was a bad decision but he could not bring himself to admit what he saw was what it was. Jeff had sworn to discuss everything with his wife but it broke his ego to raise this subject that had left him feeling less of a man. Pumulo soon slipped into deep sleep and he looked at her, not once did he get an answer, not once did he feel better. He justified her actions but could not still get to a place of peace. While Pumulo continued sleeping, Jeff picked her phone which was next to her. She had changed her password he was not surprised.

“Maybe one day I will understand but I do not for a second doubt your love for me… you have tried. No woman should ever have to go through what you have put up for me.. you have tried…” he said
