TOO FAR TO REACH 50

The plane landed with a sigh of relief from Jeff, finally time to go and meet his home. The home that he had begun to dread. Hannah was not joining them home, she was proceeding to her apartment so she immediately proceeded after saying her good bye. The driver was already present to pick the Kim’s and off they proceeded to their home.

Pumulo was dosing, it was mid day but the jet lag had her tired, trying to stay awake felt like a punishment.

“Honey… should we stop over to eat anything?” Jeff asked waking his wife up with a gentle rub on her hand.

“Uhmm..”

“we can grab something really quick maybe?” Jeff insisted.

“Sure honey…” a sleepy Pumulo replied.

The driver was instructed to park by a nearby mall and Pumulo reluctantly dragged herself out. She was exhausted and beginning to be all the more convinced that Jeff was right. She must have been pregnant.. Pumulo had sworn not to do it but as she entered the pizza place her mind could not rest, looking through her phone book archives Pumulo located Japhets number and she quickly dialed it.

“If you are calling to castigate me again then please save your breath…” Japhet said angrily.

“Japhet I am back… I am just a little worried… my husband thinks I am pregnant so… “

“So what??? He is your husband isn’t he? He can think what ever he wants… of course if you are pregnant then he is responsible Or are you not sure?”

Ignoring the  lump on her throat, Pumulo posed for a while before picking her voice to utter the only thing she could think of.

“I don’t know Japhet”

Japhet hang up and Pumulo's blood boiled in anger.

“Honestly what did I see in this fool?”

Only one thing made logical sense, Pumulo had no choice but to abort regardless of the consequences. While all this drama happened Jeff impatiently thought of a plan. He needed to go to the hospital and to see his doctor without his wife’s consent. A flood of emotions hit him as his greatest fear crippled him again, maybe the doctor was right. Only Jeff knew this information but his doctor had explained that he could not make a woman pregnant.

“Japhet said he will no longer be coming honey.. he got a new job.. we can pay him.. I knew he was no good”

Jeff was having breakfast by the dinning table and Pumulo stood before him, it had been four days since they returned to cape Town. Every hour reminded him of the fateful day, the day he found flirtatious messages between his wife and Japhet. The two had been in a steady affair and Japhet was stupid enough to demand for money. All for pleasure Pumulo gave him. It was numerous screen shots of transactions going to Japhets different accounts. Jeff had been emotionally bruised since then but he held on to the one hope that Pumulo had put up with a lot and she deserved to be happy. She still loved him, or at least according to what he chose to believe.

“I was thinking of doing my routine check up… maybe see the doctor and see how best to handle my recent improvement”

“Actually you’re right honey… when do I arrange? We can maybe go Saturday?”

Jeff shook his head barely touching his food.

“How about my lovely wife book the appointment and while I go for my appointment she can have a spa day, get herself together.. you know I get bored when you do the spa days … I am home all alone”

Pumulo was excited as she needed a moment away from Jeff to face Japhet. Her only hope was that he would cooperate.
