GETTING THEM 32
GETTING THEM 32
“I am Thokozile”
she said sitting next to me. She was not afraid of me at all, perhaps because
people were still walking around.
At this point in
my head I imagined she could be anything including a ritualist but is that the
worst that could happen?
“I am going
home, coming from my salon in Kalingalinga” she said
I listened
quietly and attentively not knowing where this conversation was going. I
figured this lady already knew who I was hence she was being this nice to me,
no one was ever nice to me. I had noticed something about living in
Kalingalinga, despite the vastness of the place everyone seemed to know
everyone. The lady was now quiet and looking at me, she was right to think I
did not have strength as the next thing she asked me was to hop into her car
and she would drive me home.
“Oh no I would
not want to bother you dear, I will walk” I replied.
“But you look
weak” she said.
I sighed as I
looked at her, I was indeed weak and my stomach was rumbling from hunger. “I am just hungry I will be okay”
“Well I am just
offering, besides there’s something I have left at the salon I just felt lazy
to go back but there’s a reason for me to go there now so we can go together”
She insisted
I decided to
trust her as I did not have many options, I was hungry and tired. I needed to
get home as quickly as I could. I got on my feet and she was kind enough to
hold my hand as I stood upright. I felt my weight leave me all the more but I
had faith. Faith that I could walk up to the car, I was not well and this was
more serious than I could imagine.

“Who is taking
the bill for this patient?” I heard a man ask as I slowly gathered my
consciousness.
If I did not
look at the clock on the wall opposite my bed I
would not have
realised how long I had been there. A Tube was inserted on my left arm and from
what I could read it was glucose. Like that was not enough, another tube was
pinned on my right hand and it was blood. I knew how serious my condition was
when I saw the blood entering into my veins. “I will” Thokozile said as she
stood up to follow the doctor.
This hospital
did not look like an ordinary hospital, as a matter of fact it seemed like I
was in a very expensive hotel room but it was actually a hospital. What was
going on?
Thokozile was gone for a while and in that moment I took a look at myself, I was dressed in a hospital gown and it had a name of the hospital on it. What was baffling was how Thokozile was okay with bringing me to such an expensive hospital. I knew the hospital because only high profile people came to it.
