GETTING THEM 33

GETTING THEM 33

I had been in the hospital for two full days with the best medical care, food was prepared for me too and I must admit it was the most delicious food I had eaten in a long while if not never. Thokozile had gone home to change and check on her baby, she told me she had a daughter and she was a student herself at a famous expensive college in Lusaka. I really admired how put together she was and how seriously she took herself, I knew at that moment that if opportunity presented itself to know Thokozile, I would want to know how she was able to afford her life because she looked quite young.

There was a knock on my door and shortly the doctor opened and walked in, the Doctor was alone this time and not accompanied by anybody. He was looking very handsome and quite calm, the calmest medical staff I had ever seen in my life. Were they trained to be like that?

“Good after afternoon… madam” he said as he opened his booklet about to start writing something.

“Good afternoon…” I replied as I watched him stare at my cannulas

“When this blood tube is complete you will be good” he said.

I nodded my head and sighed.

“How are you feeling?” he asked feeling my temperature on my forehead.

“I am recuperating” I said.

“I see that” he said.

The Doctor then asked me to open my eyes wide and I did as he asked. After a rather quick observation he jotted something on his note pad then looked at me seriously.

“My dear, your blood is low, you need to be on tablets that will enable you get your strength back and you also need to eat the right food”

I looked at him and nodded my head as our eyes met in an unusual way, I looked away quickly. My eyes then landed on his hands and something I hoped would not be there was right there staring back at me. He was married and the ring was quite visible.

“I came to inform you that you need to go through a proper medical cleanse, the cleanse needs to happen as quickly as possible as it is for your own good. We need to ensure that we protect your reproductive organs in order to enable you be able to have a children”

I knew I could not afford what he was saying but I let him finish then I would inform him that it would not be possible.

“It is very difficult for me to say yes as I may not be able to afford it... I need to talk to…”

“Oh your sister, don’t mind we have already spoken and she has accepted. As a matter of fact she has already paid the whole K18,000 bill”

My mouth hang low as I heard the amounts being mentioned. Firstly, she was not my sister and secondly, how could she pay that amount without a care in the world?
