CHAPTER 11

Jeff could not let my hand go, we had been holding hands for a while as he just sat there in silence. I wondered what was going through his mind but He could not tell me, I was only hoping that he was not confused between his fiancée and I. We had both cried so bitterly that moment that I personally felt a pain on my throat, I was inconsolable. Jeff had to beg me to stop crying as it was not good for my condition; he gave me some water and then forced me to take a nap but how could i? I needed to know exactly what his thoughts were but Jeff said nothing. A part of me really wanted to ask what the way forward would be but I did not want to be pushy at that point., he obviously had to process it all.

The nurse walked in and asked that she check my blood pressure. Jeff was sleepy while he still held on to my hand. I felt pity, he looked exhausted and his Asian eyes were now sore from crying so much.

“hey…” I whispered as I shook him to alert him of the nurse’s presence.

“Sir i am not disturbing you for long” the nurse said as she gently pulled my arm away from Jeff.

Jeff suddenly woke up and told me he was going to take a walk before bending over to peck my forehead.

“I won’t be far if you need me… let me just stretch my legs” he said.

I felt so special in that moment, a part of me felt so relieved that he just did that. The nurse looked on in admiration as I whispered back.

“Ok sure…”

Jeff then rubbed my tummy and kissed it before he left.

‘You are so loved Pumulo… you shouldn’t be getting sick.. that man needs you… a man who can sacrifice his sleep to be by your bedside is a really good man” the nurse said.

I smiled quietly as she strapped the b.p machine and continued talking.

“Is this your first pregnancy? She asked

“Yes… they are twins” I said.

The nurse smiled in awe. “Wow… I envy you.. how I just want twins so bad”

I giggled and said it was unexpected.

“Well, you are so loved… you definitely deserve the twins” she added.

The nurse later kept silent as she observed the readings on the machine.

“wow… you seem to have improved fairly well… I honestly didn’t think you would have as you look pale… you were crying again right?

I nodded my head but almost told her it was because of something else this time.

“It is well… God will not forsake you… he will forever have your back… believe in him… just look… you have an even amazing man by your side”

I nodded again and forced a smile before I replied… “Thank you”

The nurse unstrapped my hand and begun to pack up everything. Suddenly the door swung open and Jeff stormed in, I wondered why he looked like someone was chasing after him until Mosha budged in.

“Mosha… please go home” Jeff said.

“Honey… I am only here to check up on you, you have been away the entire night for Gods sake… can I not check on my own husband”

I swallowed hard at that statement as it was filled with mockery. I knew Mosha said that to spite me in the presence of the nurse. Jeff came close to hold my hand and I lifted it to oppose.

“Your wife needs you… go home… aunty will be coming soon…” I said.

I had never seen Jeff look that furious as he repeatedly said… “I am not going anywhere”

“Jeff go… please go… please… this drama is embarrassing”

“Can you imagine? What is all this? She doesn’t even want you here… she has never wanted you and you know that… even when she is pregnant you still chase her around … leave her alone…”

Those words had me confused because it seemed Mosha knew something that I did not, did Jeff ever give her the impression that he liked me? if not why did she speak like that? This looked like it was escalating really fast and the nurse in her confused state quickly meddled in.

“Sir I think its best the patient rests and yes maybe you need to leave”

Jeff looked at me desperately wanting to oppose again but I shook my head.

“please just go… we will talk soon… I will let you know how I am fairing” I said

“Thank you!!” Mosha exclaimed rudely before turning to point at Jeff.

“You… lets go” M commanded Jeff.

Jeff silently picked his blouse from the chair and left behind Mosha, he looked back as he was going and my heart just tore in pieces. The nurse was so confused from the look on her face and I really wanted to tell her the truth but it was so awkward that I just silently closed my eyes when they left.
