Enesie stumbled back into the room after forcing a puke, her body drained and the whole room spinning. It was 9:23am and just a few minutes before check out time, she still had not managed to bath and was now imagining another day at the hotel. The only thing that crossed her mind was food at this point and not how her bank account would suffer the changes, with one eye open, she got her phone by the bedside and dialed Thandi’s whatsapp line. Thandi seemed laid back and unbothered that time was not with them.

“Where are you?” Enesie enquired upon realising Thandi had been to the room and changed after breakfast.

Thandi responded reluctantly and as if she had company

“I am by the pool and about to have a swim, whats wrong?”

“a swim?  I got confused because it looks like you had come for a change of clothes.. are we not leaving?”

Thandi chuckled before giving a definite no. 

“We have two more days here…” she said.

Enesie nearly chocked although she knew Thandi could afford it.

“What is the matter? You sound worried… All is under control… come join me at the pool.. hurry”

“I feel sick, I mixed way too much alcohol.. I need a break”

“Well, when you feel better you can come… should I send room service to bring you some food?”

Enesie still confused and wondering how to clear the confusion sighed and agreed.

“If I can have some yoghurt and some meat or something.. I just want something..”

Meanwhile, June had been thinking long and hard about how to approach Thandi, she wanted to call but was too embarrassed to even bother. However, a thought ran through her mind. A little desperation hurt nobody, June texted Elisha that she was pulling up at his hotel to spend the afternoon there as she was bored home. If he was available, he could pass by to say hai. June’s real intentions were to talk to Elisha and hopefully this time try to sway him into flirting with her. A leopard never changes its spots they say, June knew how to get her way around any man she wanted. Except she had not quite met any man she wanted. Unknown to her, Elisha was with Thandi by the pool chatting the morning away. As she was heading to the pool, Thandi had plans of paying for one more night but the receptionist mentioned she had received information concerning an extension of stay on their room, there was a bit of confusion because Thandi nearly blasted the hotel for booking other people in their room before they even checked out. However, all the confusion was settled when the manager communicated with the person who had extended the stay. When Elisha showed up, Thandi immediately apologized to the hotel staff before dragging Elisha by the hand. Thandi was very clear on what she wanted to know and with the time they spent talking at the pool, she was convinced Elisha was a good guy and would do anything to get her cousin to agree. Although she did not tell him that. 

Peacefully, Enesie had her shower unknown to her about the development. Reluctantly showering and humming a childhood song, thoughts of June and all the insults she showered on her congested her mind and took over the rest of her shower. A tear trailed down her right cheek before she made resolve to sit on the tub and soaking in as she told God exactly what she wanted. Waiting for the tub to feel, Enesie walked to the upright mirror and looked at her naked body, everything looked imperfect. Why would anybody want to be with her? Who wanted a dark girl anyway? It seemed all men liked them plump and light in complexion. Enesie was medium curvy but with a chocolate color, although very beautiful.. nothing about her body made her feel deserving of love. In that moment, Enesie remembered her nickname in school… black shine. Everyone called her that but that’s only because all her friends were light in complexion. Enesie was very beautiful but had never really come around to accepting that. 

Elisha was not swimming himself, rather, he just had his legs in the pool and continued chatting with Thandi who was diving in and out of the water. He had left his phone unattended at a distance that he did not see June’s message. June had however made up her mind to still go to the hotel. With a bikini underneath her maxi dress and a big sun hat to finish off her look, June walked out of her apartment and hopped into her car to try her luck for the very last time on the man she had come to like. 

“at least without any disturbances, let me try and talk to him… maybe we can swim together” June thought with a grin
