LIKE FINE WINE 7

Saturdays were normally fun as Elisha got to see Jeremy, the two had a bond dating back to when they were in primary school. In his younger years, Jeremy's dad was a well known vibrant politician and Elisha’s dad was chairperson in the then ruling party. Elisha’s dad was just starting out in politics and he was mentored by the best. After so many years had gone by, Mr Ndashe had taken a different route and ventured into farming after many disappointments in his political career. It was for this reason that Jeremy had studied agriculture to take after his late dad. Elisha's dad however took the mantle from his older brother and became the successful one in politics.

“This isn’t cutting it” Jeremy whined as he put his whisky glass down.

The two gentlemen were at Jeremy’s joint in Chalala, a few meters away from home, Jeremey owned a pub which was drawing a lot of attention especially on weekends. The joint was known for the famous goat soup and affordable drinks. However, Jeremy hated to spend most of his time there as he was always under Kupela's watch. Despite being married for 15 years, Kupela still gave her husband no peace. While Elisha envied his friend who had such a wonderful wife, Jeremey often admired Elisha who had his freedom.

“You know she listens to you… tell her  you have something going on somewhere and you need me..” Jeremy enticed his friend.

Kupela was helping out in the kitchen but her glance was on her husband. From the kitchen it was clear to see the counter, she knew he had plans of going out and she was ready to oppose.

“No man.. I like it here”

“Elisha really? Dude come on!”

“I don’t know man… if I had a wife like yours I would be very happy to be around her. She is everything a man wants and more”

Jeremy looked at his friend from the corner of his eye.

“No.. not like that” Elisha said before he burst into laughter.

“Careful”

“My bad” he chuckled

“but ya… I see no wrong in us being here…”

“No.. there’s everything wrong. By the way… you’re going to Italy?”

Elisha tried to avoid the topic but Jeremy brought it back.

“So what are you running away from this time? Every time you take vacation there’s something you’re escaping”

“Loneliness” Elisha said sarcastically.

“well, I am not complaining.. my daughter gets to be on another vacation… Emily needs siblings Elisha…”

“Oh wow.. so my daughter taking your daughter along on vacation is now a big issue that I should be reminded my daughter has no siblings?”

Jeremy shook his head as he interrupted. “You don’t need to take offence. Was just looking out. My wife does mind sometimes, I know the children are best friends but I’m just saying… reconsider… Emily is lonely”

Elisha swallowed hard and took a sip from his glass. Although he knew his friend came from a good place, it hurt him deeply.

Enesie was preparing for her leave, she had been longing for a time to finally go out and spread her wings. She had spent the last months planning and researching but only Dubai seemed to make sense. She was ecstatic to finally be able to do this vacation and was even excited about the pictures she was going to take. Two weeks went by fast and finally the morning of her flight was here, she had planned so well but unfortunately realised the hotel she booked cancelled her booking a night before her trip because she had not confirmed her departure on time. With little to no options, Enesie opted to delay in South Africa for two days before she Could leave. Her cousin Thandi from Johannesburg was accompanying her on the vacation and they were meant to connect in S.A and proceed. Thandi had been in South Africa for 7 years after University where she studied Pharmacy. She had found her career and second home in Joburg, not once did she attempt to leave.
