RENTED LIFE 33

The tea break was what Kuni needed to break to relax her even further after the massage. She was well rested after they both awakened from their nap in the sap. The spa treatment was so good that they had both knocked out. The mid-morning breeze was so good, they tea was set just at a right post overlooking the beautiful landscapes and pool area. Kuni was focused on her croissant when Simon’s mum brought in another topic which she could not believe was even something she had noticed.

“Kuni my dear, I like you a lot and I have come to like you even more as we spend time together. I know you will make a great wife for my son... when I look at you, I think of myself at your age... I was eager to give my best and I did give my best to this marriage’”

Kuni attentively listened as she remained complete unrelating to the topic. She knew all Simon wanted was for Amanda to go back with them so he could finally live his life as a bachelor, young and free.

“I know as a young lady looking at this fine young man and thinking, how do I fit in this world? I love your simplicity. You truly remind me of me and I knew Simon was truly in love when he chose you... he followed his father’s exact footsteps. he did not choose any of the women that were chasing his life. I know many ladies wanted a share of everything but when he spoke of you... he cried, he said it was this deep feeling he had never felt before. I understood him and so did his father. I am not worried about you disappointing him because I can see through you, you have such a pure heart and you love him genuinely. In fact. He is the one I warned about taking care of you”

Kuni wiped a tear and placed her hands on her lap. Her appetite had left her and she was torn between finally telling the truth or going ahead with the lie.

“When I saw you, I saw myself. Young naïve girl and wondering where I would fit in but best believe me you will. You saw the Hazemba’s, that is who they are...

they are very good people. I am bemba too by the way... I am not sure if he told you...” she said.

“Yes, mum he did” Kunii responded wiping another tear with a paper towel.

“I know you love him dearly and trust me, for a man like Simon. That is all you need, to love him genuinely and to respect him”

Kuni listened to her speak until she finally concluded after giving her blessings and welcoming her into the family.

“Thank you so much mum... I am sorry I have been crying all along”

“It’s okay, let it out and one thing... walk with your head high. Never ever feel out of place or intimidated by your husband’s background... this is your life now... this is your reality. Embrace it...”

Kuni was torn all the more, something about how Mrs. Hazemba spoke of Simon made her clearly believe he truly loved her but all the confusion regarding Aaliyah could not escape her. Kuni could not wait for the act to be over, she needed her life back. The rest of the day went very well and Kuni returned to her home relaxed and just wanting to sleep. However, after sleeping for only a few hours, she was up at 2am again and she was crying all over again. Something about all this tore her in a way she had never been.

“God... I have said every prayer now.. please help me. I want out of this situation”
