RENTED LIFE CHAPTER 34

 Aaliyah sat before Simon weeping; she was not at all surprised by what eh was saying but she was very disappointed. She didn’t understand why it had come to this far, all this could be avoided, why did he let things get this far.

“Simon...” she said emotionally. She couldn’t find the words to say.

“Aaliyah, it is just for my parents...”

“No... I do not believe you... I do not... not even for a moment... why would you even think pay her dowry is something you can play with? Why? Simon, do you know what you are saying?”

Simon tried to calm her down, the two were in her house and Simon had just brought himself to tell her that his parents had insisted on Kunis bride price being paid before they left and then they would return months later for the wedding. He tried to explain that once they had left, he would return then find ways to call off everything and he would then focus on their baby. When Simon spoke of their baby, Aaliyah had an unusual expression her face but she went ahead and declined what he was putting on the table. Meanwhile, it had been weeks since Kuni and Aaliyah spoke. Kuni booked a car and headed her friend’s direction just to clear her mind a little, Kuni had left her ring at home and she was hoping the conversation with Aaliyah will help her clear her mind as to what things were, she also wanted to see if Aaliyah would continue lying to her face. However, when Kuni’s ride wheeled into Aaliyah car park, she was stunned upon seeing Simon’s vehicle, she hoped this was the best opportunity to walk in on them but she could not gather her courage.

“Sir I am sorry; can you take me to the mall?”

“Madam your ride has ended” the uber driver said.

“No please take me to the mall... I will give you the money don’t worry... I cannot stop here...” she said as tears ran through cheeks

“Madam you will have to book again and maybe it won’t be me that will pick your ride”

“Sir please... let me just go out of here... I will pay more its fine... even K200. Just get me out of here” she cried.

As the driver negotiated his gears, Simon stormed out of Aaliyahs apartment and while Aaliyah chased after him crying. Kuni did not understand what was going on but he lay back and watched him drive off before she finally looked clearly and saw Aaliyah sit on her veranda weeping. The uber was about to reverse after Simon passed but Kuni stopped him.

“Wait... don’t move”

“Madam... do you know that is my job and I am losing money by staying here” Kuni opened her bag and slipped out a K100 note.

“Here you go. I will drop off here”

“You are not even sure of what you want” he said.

“Sir please... I have paid you your dues now go” Kuni said as she quickly alighted. Aaliyah was holding her tummy while crying, she eventually got up and went in, she did not see Kuni approaching. Aaliyah sat on the floor in the house leaning against her door as she better wept. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. “Simon... go away... its fine... go and marry her...” she said.

“Aaliyah. it’s me...” Kunii said.
