RENTED LIFE CHAPTER 30

Simon was clad in a beautiful Masai shirt while Kuni was clad in a brown Chitenge dress. She had the Chitenge dress from back when she was in Ndola. The dress was not so attractive according to her thoughts and she hoped it would make her look poor and Simons parents would reject her. Simon hugged Kuni one last time before they could get in the car heading home to have family lunch with his parents. Kuni was very quiet and compose the whole time, she listened to Simon talk of how this was the best day of his life that finally his parents were going to meet the woman he intended to marry. Simon was oblivious to the fact that Kuni was battling tears and different emotions in that moment. She had lost a significant amount of weight and she attributed it to working out and eating clean.

“I cannot wait, I love you and I can not wait for my people to see you”

“I’m happy too” Kuni said.

The rest of the ride was really quiet until they arrived at the mansion. Simon was excited and also nervous to some extent, Kuni was disgusted by his pretense, everything about that moment made her feel like throwing up. How could someone act so indifferent. She couldn’t believe it; she had no idea why he would lie like that. Simon alighted form the vehicle ready to open the door for his queen but Kuni was not ready. Suddenly she had serious nerves and she wanted to use the rest room. She could not understand why this was so. Why was she nervous? Its not like this was real anyway.

“Are you ready honey?” Simon asked.

“Uhm. no honey... I need to pee...”

Simon chuckled... “Are you nervous my love?”

“I think so”

Simon quickly ushered Kuni in and led her to he bathroom, she eased herself and stood before the mirror.

“God why am I doing this?” she asked herself.

There wasn’t much time for her to start wailing again, she needed to step out and meet his parents and hopefully get over and done with everything.

“I really wish it was finally my turn. Anyway, it was too good to be true”

As soon as Kuni left the bathroom, Simon held her hand ad they walked to the living room where his parents settle. Kunis mum immediately got on her knees and so did Kuni, she did not believe how traditional Simon’s mum was. Kuni remained kneeling until Kuni’s mum welcomed her in traditional bemba language by putting money right before her so that she could walk in. Simon was in awe and confused on what to do. Unknown o him, his two aunties had also been invited and there was ululating and clapping. Kuni was wondering if she had not prepared herself adequately as this seemed like a serious feast.

“My daughter, you are welcome, this is your home, feel at home and be open to coming here to visit this home whenever you please”

Kuni was eventually asked to stand up and she walked slowly behind everyone one until she was ushered to the dining table where money was put on her seat before she could sit and eventually on the table before she could eat or drink. The family was so jovial and excited. The house turned out to be full, Simon’s cousins had come, his aunties and even two of his grandmother
